My Sea Turtle Conservation Experience in Huidong

My Sea Turtle Conservation Experience in Huidong

Where I’m Staying

I'm staying at an eco-hostel near the beach in Huidong, China. It’s simple but cozy, with solar panels and recycling systems. I share rooms with other volunteers, and we all eat and work together. It’s peaceful and close to nature—perfect for a conservation experience.

 The Weather

The weather here is warm and humid, around 30°C during the day. There’s a nice ocean breeze and occasional rain, but nothing too strong. It’s ideal for sea turtles, especially during nesting season. The warm nights make beach patrols comfortable and beautiful.

 Program Name and Purpose

I’m part of the Huidong Sea Turtle Conservation Project, which aims to protect endangered sea turtles through rescue, research, and education. We support injured turtles, protect nests, and raise awareness in local communities. It’s a hands-on program with a real environmental impact.

5 Volunteer Activities I’ve Done

So far, I’ve:

1. Fed turtles at the rescue center

2. Cleaned turtle enclosures

3. Joined night patrols on nesting beaches

4. Collected data on hatchlings

5. Helped with beach cleanups

Each task helps the turtles and teaches me more about marine conservation.

3 Things I Plan to Do

Next, I plan to:

1. Release baby turtles into the ocean

2. Help with environmental workshops for kids

3. Build beach signs to inform visitors

I’m excited to do more and keep making a difference.

5 Environmental Tips

1. Avoid single-use plastics – Turtles often eat plastic by mistake.

2. Recycle properly – Reduces pollution and saves resources.

3. Save energy – Helps fight climate change.

4. Join cleanup events – Keeps habitats safe and healthy.

5. Educate others – Spreading awareness multiplies the impact.
